1999-2000 AWARD RECIPIENTS
Dr. Janice Wilbur Dr. Janice Wilbur, the University's substance abuse prevention coordinator, was a recipient of the Outstanding First Year Experience Teacher Award in 1999-2000. Dr. Janice Wilbur was selected based on her longstanding dedication to undergraduate education, and to first-year students in particular, even before these initiatives were made strategic priorities at the University of Connecticut. We appreciate her active involvement as an outstanding instructor and trainer in the First Year Experience program and her service to students through the nationally recognized Heart Program.
Dr. Wilbur has been a regular guest speaker in FYE courses, presenting to close to 50 different sections each semester. In addition, she has taught an FYE University Learning Skills section each Fall. Through the Heart Program, Dr. Wilbur has developed a comprehensive internship program for over 100 students, an acute alcohol intoxification certification program, and a court-recognized community service program for students arrested for alcohol and other drugs. The Heart Program is recognized by the Century Council as a comprehensive alcohol and drug program and ranks in the top six programs nationally.
