Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith
Jeff von Munkwitz-Smith has served as the University Registrar since December 1996. Jeff has consistently taught First Year Experience since the Fall of 2000. In his classes, he works to combine activities that help students build their academic and life skills while providing opportunities for intellectual growth. In the Fall of 2004, Jeff directed our "Connecting with the Arts" Learning Community. Jeff participates in many activities including the Provost's Retention and Graduation Task Force, the Study Abroad Advisory Committee, University Senate, and UConn Connects. Jeff's role as a tireless student advocate is demonstrated through his teaching and dedication to students and serves as a model for all who work with first year students |

Francine DeFranco
Francine DeFranco has been a member of the UConn community since 1990. Presently, she serves as the Director for Collection Services at the Homer Babbidge Library as well as the Library's Liaison to the School of Education. Francine has been dedicated to the First Year Experience and UConn Connects programs since 2001. She teaches INTD 1800, our University Learning Skills classes where she excels in helping students make connections to the academic community. She has also taught an INTD 1820 class titled "Dazed and Confused" that developed students' information literacy skills in order to achieve academic success. Francine's personal commitment to supporting students in and out of the classroom is an irreplaceable asset to First Year Experience. |

Katherine Jolly
Katherine Jolly is a 4th semester Elementary Education major from Manchester, CT. Katie is an enthusiastic, hard working, and successful student who served as a First Year Experience mentor during the Fall 2006 semester. In addition to her role as a mentor, Katie works in the Office of the Vice Provost of Enrollment Management. Katie volunteers at the Nathan Hale Elementary School and the Southeast After School Reading Program. Katie exemplifies all that we hope for in our undergraduates; combining academic excellence with campus involvement, community service, and a focus on developing professional skills that can be applied beyond UConn.

Susie Mendizabal
Susie Mendizabal is a 6th semester Communications major from Ridgefield, CT. After transferring to UConn during her first year of college, Susie enrolled in an FYE class and began her connection with First Year Programs. Susie served as a First Year Experience mentor last Fall and has worked as a UConn Connects facilitator this Spring. Susie believes that her experience as an FYE mentor has changed her perspective of what it means to be a student. Susie's friendly, thoughtful, and approachable nature allow her to make connections with students while passing along the academic, personal, and social skills needed to succeed at the University. |
